Thousands of laptops are being stolen across the world every day, with the growing number of thefts its quite natural for you to worry about it.Before we start this how to track a stolen laptop tutorial let me make it clear that it wont work if you have already lost one and you are trying to trace it now,but it would if you lose it after we are done with this tutorial.
All credits to the geeky guys at Dropbox forum who came up with this innovative method. These guys made a small script which tracks the IP of the laptop by using Netstat,Ipconfig,whatsmyip.com’s report etc and sends the info right into your Dropbox account. so when the thief activates internet from the stolen laptop we would have his location.
This brilliant little script works on all three platforms Mac,Windows & Linux and all you need to do is download ,install and schedule it to run occasionally and hey,if you don’t have a Dropbox account yet create one right now from here.
What next ? now you need to schedule the script to run once a while, how about daily ? Windows users follow these steps and Mac users get cronnix to schedule the script.Unfortunately this trick wont work if the thief clears off your hard disk before he accesses internet from it which is unlikely to happen unless he reads this before he gets get your laptop.
